Somewhere about 2006 I was shopping at Sammy’s Organics in Colorado Springs.  My friend (and owner of the store) Vivian Magruder introduced me to a lovely woman.  Viv introduced us in the parking lot and the woman and I exchanged numbers.  It was a joy to explore what each of us had to offer and we ended up hiring each other.

Well, the woman was Michelle Vandepas and she became my consultant and helped me set up my relationship coaching business to heal broken hearts, then Michelle hired me to take her through The Best Year of Your Life process licensed to me by Debbie Ford.

It wasn’t too long after experiencing each others work that we formed a partnership and opened the doors to Divine Purpose Unleashed, LLC.  One of the first things Michelle did was make a declaration…

I’m going to be on Oprah!

I must admit that I thought that was a lofty goal.    Michelle started a blogtalk radio show and her first interview was… guess where?

In My BATHROOM!

That’s right.  She had her first headset…..and the toilet seat was down! (in case you were wondering).

I admired her as she started honing her skills and confidence level.  She learned everything she could about interviewing.  I watched her as her passion grew and turned into a commitment.  She’s let other things go in service of her commitment and the doors have opened providing her countless opportunities.  Here are just a few things she has done in the last three years in preparation for being on Oprah:

• Michelle was the radio anchor at the 2009 Sobcon.  This is a high level conference for bloggers and she made some great connections while doing what she called “practicing.”
• Michelle was a speaker at the 2009 Authorfest in Colorado and this year is a sponsor for the 2010 AuthorFest.  She will be interviewing hundreds of authors and helping them market their book.
• Michelle has interviewed over 150 spiritual leaders in the past three years including Neal Donal Walsh, Conversations with God, P.M.H. Atwater, Trish Bishop,  Amit Goswami, and Tom Volker.

With each interview on talking purpose, Michelle gets better and I think she stopped “practicing” a long time ago. 

In walks OPRAH! Metaphorically speaking of course.

How do you get your audition tape listened to by Oprah?

In the past I think all you could do is send in an audio recording through the mail, but with internet… WOWIE!  We imagine that hundreds of tapes will be sent in to be listened to and the producers will need to listen to them, but they probably won’t listen to them all.  Lucky the internet can help, and so can you!

Life is about trading.

If you work for someone else, you trade 40 hours of your time for 40 hours of pay.

If you get your car worked on, you trade money for a service.

How much do you trade for a cup of coffee? or a new sweater?

How do you feel about all the things you have traded for?

Do you value them?  Do you appreciate how hard you’ve worked for your trades?  Most trading in our lives is done for a monetary exchange, but what about the things you trade that don’t involve money?

When my son was a toddler, I was in a babysitting co-op and traded little washers for 30 minutes per child.  It was a great experience for me to have lots of people to trade babysitting with and still feel there was an equal balance.  No need for resentment, if you needed more time for yourself you knew what you needed to do.  And I trusted everyone in my washer group.

When I split up with my husband five years ago, he traded me in for a new boat.  That didn’t feel so good for me, but maybe because he was the one doing the trading.  I prayed for a better relationship with him and that’s what I got.  It wasn’t the way I would have done it. God has his ways of answering prayers but, as far as a trade I got what I asked for.

Today, I’m trading what I want in order to support someone I love in going after what he wants.  In letting go, I’m trading in my fear for an extra dose of faith

Have you traded in what you really want for yourself?

How often do you put off living your soul’s purpose?  How many times do you avoid taking responsibility for the expression of your purpose by choosing activities that don’t support it?  How many times do you have the thought that you should be doing something different than what you are doing?  How often do you trade in your commitment for short-term gratification?  If you are feeling resentful of the very things (and people) you love and that make life worth living, look to see what you’ve been trading…

How much is your Divine Purpose worth?

You have a Divine Purpose and you know it.  Maybe you need to dust it off; get it out and check for moth holes, but you have something very special inside of you that needs to be developed more fully and expressed into the world.  Are you willing to do what it takes?  Maybe you have been, but you know you need to take it to the next level and haven’t.  You have to make a decision.  That’s all there is to it.  What is the value that you place on unveiling, unleashing, and manifesting your Divine Purpose?  In coaching terms the appropriate question is…

What are you willing to give up?

Are you willing to trade in your excuses?  Think of all the reasons you give for not taking the steps you already know you need to.  Are you willing to trade in your limited thinking to live a life of purpose?  Or are you content with your limitations?  Are you willing to trade in your complaining?  Your life of ease?  A partner?  What price are you willing to pay?  If you haven’t already downloaded our Myths Report, you can check out some of the most common ways we trade in our purpose.

What do you desire?

As you contemplate this question, allow yourself to really connect with exactly what it is you want.  Do you want more connection?  More love?  More Purpose in your life?  Maybe you want the perfect career to unfold for you, or a relationship to shift for the better.  Whatever it is that you want, let yourself imagine what it would be like if you got what you wanted.  How would you feel?  What would you be able to experience that is new for you?  Knowing what you want before you move in a direction will focus your energy.

Setting an intention allows for your desires to be made known.

Your intention tells the unseen forces of the universe to conspire on your behalf; you don’t even need to keep your intention in your conscious awareness!  Isn’t that wild?  Once your intention has been spoken or written down, you can let it fall away from your short term memory.  Just let it go.  After setting an intention, you need to open yourself up to receiving that which you desire.  If you begin your endeavors by first setting an intention, you will find that the people, events, and ideas come to you much more easily.  It’s like setting a compass so the UPS delivery guy can find you.  He’s cute!

When you act before setting an intention, expect chaos!

Or at the very least a road closed sign that takes you on some unexpected detour.  Detours can be fun, if you’re adventurous, but they aren’t very efficient.  Have you ever started out on a mission unprepared?  When I’ve done that I’ve had to run back for my keys and my wallet; sometimes I need to go back for my shoes (don’t tell anyone, okay?).  And that was just to go to the grocery store.  What if you start a big project without setting an intention?  What if you don’t have any idea where you wan to end up?  That’s like having a map that doesn’t have any city names on it.  Where will you end up?  Who knows right?

Michelle and I set an intention when we started working together.

I forgot what that is right now, and that’s my point.  Once we set an intention, we don’t need to remember.  For my own peace of mind, I am taking a look right now at our business plan, and then I’d like to share a couple excerpts from what we wrote:

• Divine Purpose Unleashed provides for the support in others unveiling, unleashing, and manifesting their divine purpose.  Our intention is to provide accountability and mastermind groups to some, and even includes an intention that it is easy for us to support others financially on their path to a purpose-filled life.
• All of our tools and products focus on expanding our own vision and the vision others to live the most extraordinary life we can imagine.
• We hold people in the energy so they can move through their internal judgments and beliefs and limiting behaviors into their highest expression.
• Divine Purpose Unleashed creates peace in the hearts of individuals, which translates into world peace.

Wow!  I forgot how big we were thinking.  But, I can honestly say that our intention is manifesting.  We have been working our butts off, but we haven’t been sitting here reading our business plan everyday.  That would probably focus our intention even more though!

I can’t say it enough:  Set an intention!  Take my word or it or check out what Marcia Wieder has to say about intention.

Your Intention will always be the perfect first step, but let it come with clarity!

I ask you again:  What do you want?  This is your intention.  You could say that you want a new living room set, or you could intend to make a million dollars.  And I would say, “That’s not what I mean!”  You don’t have to have altruistic intentions, but become aware of the experience you would like to have with your intention.  While I intend to provide accountability, that accountability can manifest in a hundred different ways.  Our membership site is one way and my coaching services is another, but I won’t be limited by two options.  My intention to provide accountability includes mild forms as well as high level accountability requiring a rock solid commitment from my clients.

Try it today, as an experiment

After you read this, set an intention for what you would like to experience today.  Maybe you would like a tangible experience of peace.  Perhaps you would like to feel supported.  Or maybe you want to connect with your spiritual gifts!  Whatever it is for you, give yourself permission to have this intended experience and then watch how it shows up for you.  Hey, let me know the results of this little exercise–I’m curious!  And not only that, I will get confirmation from you that I know what I’m talking about or maybe I’m full of #*@&.  You tell me!

First There Was FIRE!

Last Tuesday night I got the telephone call on the reverse 911 system. Mandatory evacuation. Fire down the road. High Winds. Leave the house.

Now.

It turned out that 800 families got the call, and we were not in immediate danger, but I didn’t know it at the time.

In my car went my child, 2 dogs, (100 lbs each) my cat, (hard to catch in an emergency, so I’m so very grateful she happened to be sleeping in her cat bed at the time), my laptop, my tower from my desktop, and the family passports – in case we had to take an extended vaction. My husband grabbed his camera case.

Hubby and I took a look around the house and shrugged. What else was needed? Everything.

Twenty seven years in the same home. Our lives together. A lifetime of stuff. Photos, family heirlooms, artwork, clothing, Jewelry.

Memories.

What else should we take?

Nothing.

As we drove down our road, smelling smoke, we had no idea what the next few days would bring. We spent the night huddled up in a twin bed being grateful for the safety of our family and pets.

The next morning I gladly went about my day. Hubby went to work, Child went to school, and I taught class with CK on being fully committed to life.

As I said in class that day. I may be evacuated, but I have no control over the fire, my home, or what happens next, so I’m living my life as I always do. Going about my day. Doing my best to stay in the moment. Trying to stay centered. Calm and in the Now.

A beautiful spring snow arrived allowing the firefighters to get the fire under control and the next day we were allowed to return home. And I was (and am) so very grateful that everyone is safe.

I’ve since updated my evacuation list of things I’d take:

• Clothes
• Toiletries
• Homeopathy
• Essential Oils
• Artwork
• Charger cord for cell phone
• A few office supplies like phone book. paper and pen.

Then, Surprise! A Rock and My Car Window!

What the Heck?

So, Thursday morning, feeling like ‘I deserve a break today’, I’m driving along with Child and Friend along a mountain pass to go visit Antero hot springs. Nothing much is happening and I’m still in awe of the power of fire and life and feeling free when …………..

…………....WHAM

A boulder flew off the mountain and shattered my passenger van sliding door. Right next to my four year old girl sitting in her car seat.

Shattered glass, Big Hole. Moutain Highway. Little Girl.

Not good.

I pulled off the road and called my insurance, three car glass replacement places and my husband. No one could really help. We were miles from home, in a roadside pullout. with broken glass in the car and in the window.

So…… We smashed out the rest of the glass (I had a towel since we were headed to the hot springs) and continued on our way.

Thank you… Walmart?!!

The first store we came to was a Walmart and I pulled into the back where they do oil changes. Three guys came out, vaccuumed my car, cleaned up the remaining glass and taped up a cardboard box over the hole.

For Free.

Thank you Woodland Park Walmart guys.

(I sent cookies later).

It took me about an hour to recover from the weirdness of it all, and again, I am so grateful that my child was safe and glass free.

I’ve got two questions for you:

1. What do you make of this weird energy I’m in?

2. What would you take with you if you had to evacuate in a hurry? Does that tell you what is important in your life? (Ok 3 questions)

They say things come in three’s and this site went down today….. Something to do with WordPress 2.5 or a plugin. not sure which but my day was crazy. WEIRD and I’m glad it is over.
