Aviana to Speak at The Moses Code Screening

Aviana shaved her head for Uganda

This is my daughter Aviana, and until recently I have wondered why am I doing this? I have asked myself this over and over this last month. There have been obstacles for sure. There has been time and energy and money invested in this project. Sweat and tears…literally! A portion of the official movies’ proceeds will go to a project I am involved with: The Uganda Project, funded through The Global Heart.

There is a purpose. I decided to become involved with The Moses Code Movie to raise money to build a school in Uganda.

My daughter said she would help, and went to school asking people to donate. No donations came. Only words of encouragement.

And then my 10-year-old daughter came home from school intent on shaving her head. She heard about an event they were talking about at school and wanted to participate. I asked her if she would shave her head for the children in Uganda instead, and she said, “Yes!” She asked friends to participate, even her best friend. Some said yes, but she is the only one who went through with it. It must be on her path. Two weeks ago she shaved her head. And guess what? She has a beautiful head.

It was shaky there for a few hours. Afterwards she cried as she was the only one. She called herself ‘ugly’ and cried, sad and angry. She wanted her hair back. I looked over at her hair (all of it) lying lifeless on the table and exclaimed, “Oh, I get it…you think it’s your hair that makes you beautiful…how about you run off then so I can spend some time alone with your hair.”

Well, something shifted in her and about 30 minutes later, my daughter was dancing and singing out loud about how beautiful she is. Do you know what else she is? Brave. Courageous. Caring. Daring. And her own person. Being the only girl who shaved her head, she is getting lots of positive feedback. And I think she gets that she is not her hair.

The main reason you should join us for this event is that my daughter, Aviana, will be there.

All profits from the Divine Purpose screening will go to The Global Heart in support of the Uganda Project. Tickets are $10.00 in advance and $15.00 at the door. You can e-mail me for tickets or donations. Here are the locations and times of the screenings:

This story touched my heart. What a beautiful child – inside and out.

I hope everyone who reads this and watches the video will spare a few dollars to help her cause!

We are so proud of you, Aviana.

CK, if I was in Colorado I would surely come to the screening! I’m sorry I’ll miss your beautiful daughter speaking there. I also hope that everyone who reads this donates something to this excellent cause.

I love what you said to Aviana when she was telling herself she was ugly. It practically brings tears to my eyes. Thank you for sharing this.
